Characteristics of the branch of study Applied Informatics:

The University of Pardubice and the University of Hradec Králové have created a joint doctoral study programme "Applied Informatics". The branch of study is focused on mastering scientific methods of research, and the development of systems based on the use of information technology for the collection, transmission, storage and processing of data, information and knowledge. Students will focus on issues of design, implementation, evaluation, use and maintenance of computer-based systems in various application domains of informatics. The study includes computer resources, software, organisational and human aspects, and industrial and commercial applications. Emphasis is placed on the creative application of methods and tools of computer science to solve various real-world problems.

Objectives of the branch of study:

The study is aimed at educating highly qualified professionals able to research, design, implement, develop and especially apply modern information, communication and knowledge technologies in various industrial and other areas.

Graduate profile:

A graduate of applied informatics is able to scientifically research and bring their own solutions to problems in the field of methods and tools for the development of systems for collecting, transmitting, storing and processing data, information and knowledge, while being able to independently acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in applied informatics. The graduate of the field of applied informatics masters the principles of scientific work, scientific formulation of problems, legal and environmental aspects of new products, and ethical and social aspects of scientific work. They are able to present the results of research in various forms, including publication in scientific journals and proceedings of scientific conferences.

Initial requirements for applicants:

The applicant should be a graduate of a postgraduate programme aimed at informatics or another related study programme. In the field of informatics, the applicant should have sound knowledge of the application of technical, software and communication tools, the ability to design simple database applications, knowledge of CASE tools, programming principles, basic tools to support decision-making, knowledge of system approaches and system analysis, as well as knowledge of obtaining information from information sources. In the field of language skills, the applicant should have a working knowledge of English.

Focus and scope of required knowledge and courses:

The courses included in the standard study plan as compulsory or optional are designed to enable the student, in cooperation with the lecturer in the doctoral study programme, to obtain a sufficient basis corresponding to the current state of knowledge in the field to which the doctoral study programme belongs. To achieve the required knowledge, the student chooses the courses in connection with their research orientation and the focus of their dissertation.

Part-time study involves a lot of independent work. You come to school once in about three weeks, on Fridays and Saturdays. In these lectures you will go through the core parts of the courses, the rest depends on your self-study. This form of study is complemented by consultations.
