What will we teach you?

The core of the study programme is a practical language study focused on the use of language both at the general and professional level. Students develop their communicative competencies in German and Czech and acquire the necessary knowledge, especially in linguistically, literary and culturally oriented disciplines, and theoretical knowledge in the field of professional translation and practical translation skills. The programme also provides students with a basic orientation in economic-administrative and social-scientific disciplines so that they can adequately work with texts thematically focused on these areas.

In the combined study, literary-oriented subjects are omitted and theoretical knowledge in the field of professional translation and practical presentation skills is not required. Students are allowed to choose subjects that correspond to their needs with respect to the other study programme.

What will you become?

Graduates of the bachelor's study are prepared primarily for employment in practice such as the tourism industry or middle management in companies doing business in our territory. They are equipped with practical knowledge of the language and life and institutions of German-speaking countries. They will find employment opportunities both in the above-mentioned domestic business spheres, focused on their activities in the relevant language areas, and in foreign institutions. The graduate can be employed in publishing houses, editorial offices, commercial companies, state administration, cultural foundations, the media, in the private sector and wherever language-skilled workers, equipped with professional knowledge, will be needed.

The possibility to combine this philological study with another type of study will also increase the employment opportunities of graduates.

What do the entrance exams involve?

Entrance exams are cancelled. The form and conditions of the admission procedure and the method of evaluation are identical to the English Language study programme with specialisations. Only applicants who obtain at least 55 points can be admitted to the study.

Applicants are required to submit the following as an attachment to the e-application by April 20, 2021:

  1. scanned copies of school reports from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of the secondary school from both semesters in pdf format, OR a copy of a language exam certificate at least at level B2 or higher, included in the list of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports available  here. Do not send certificates other than those listed.
