Guarantor of the study programme: prof. Ing. Aleš Růžička, Ph.D.
Graduates from this study programme have a broad portfolio of theoretical knowledge of the fields in question, practical laboratory skills including work with exclusion of air gases, in a vacuum and at high pressures, and are able to work with modern instruments for both synthesis and analysis. Graduates are able to explain chemical events and processes, and their principles including primary quantum chemical calculations using modern software. Specifically, this involves the development of theoretical preparation in areas of inorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry and coordination compounds, and other interrelated disciplines where these compounds are applied to the highest possible degree of current knowledge. As far as instrumental techniques are concerned, graduates will be familiar with NMR spectroscopy and crystallography techniques, including the following support techniques: EPR, IQ, Raman’s and UV-Vis spectroscopy, microscopic and thermic techniques.
Science and research activity is an integral part of each graduate's study. Students are encouraged to think independently about problems relating to their field of study and to use creative activity. In addition to theoretical study and reading relevant scholarly texts in foreign languages, their knowledge is based on discussions with colleagues in the field, internal postgraduate students, domestic and foreign experts they meet during lectures organised at their home institution or at conferences they attend. The core of this activity lies in cooperation with the supervisor, responsible teachers, senior colleagues, but also regular seminars organised by the Department, which hosts renowned domestic but also foreign scientists; all this contributes to graduates’ understanding of texts and ideas presented in foreign languages. For the purposes of language and theoretical training, students can borrow contemporary paper and electronic texts from the University Library; the Department Library also purchases the latest works and offers them to students.

Part-time study
In Part-time study, lessons are on every other Friday and Saturday. Major part is self-study. It is a type of study suitable for students with full-time jobs.
